Artist Statement

As a contemporary figurative artist, I capture moods and moments from books or folktales combining oil painting, illustration, and mixed media techniques. My work explores the figure through design, employing fluid organic lines with ornate patterns inspired by the Art Nouveau, Secessionist, and Art Deco movements. Each piece is independently decorative with narrative and literary allusions, possessing an aesthetic juxtaposition of unique realism with imaginative shapes. My work leans heavily on memories, nostalgia, and stories from my childhood, featuring the characters, scenes, and sentiments that kindled joy and made life as a child bright. In each painting, I hope to capture a little ray of joy and allow people to find escape from a very busy grown-up world. Untethered to the rules of realism, my work intermingles dream with the reality of the two and three-dimensional world, resembling something between a picture book and real life.
